Inside Issue 2
In Issue 2, our featured destination is Oaxaca, Mexico, along with stories from South Africa, Uganda, Senegal, Denmark, South Korea, Japan, and the USA. We explore travel through the eyes of our contributors, writers, designers, and creatives so you can also experience the world from their perspective.
Inspired by the travel experiences that have impacted our lives, in Álula Magazine Issue 2, we immerse ourselves in stories that show us that, beyond the first encounter, the art of travel lies in knowing how to observe closely. Explore extraordinary corners in African Travel Notes, from the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi in Uganda to a beach populated by penguins in Cape Town, South Africa, and the fabric markets in Dakar, Senegal. Join us in Travel through Design, Islands, and discover design in different islands worldwide: the Korean Island of Jeju, the artistic Japanese islands of Naoshima and Teshima, the remote Faroe Islands and their creative community, and Little Island in New York.
Our featured destination, Travel Oaxaca City, showcases the color and variety of this Mexican city. Learn more about Oaxaca’s design, artistic photography, and first-hand ventures that you, too, can experience when visiting this enchanting city, among many other topics. Experience Oaxaca and its most authentic corners as locals, editors, and design lovers recommend.

African Travel Notes
CAPE TOWN (South Africa), BWINDI (Uganda) & Dakar (Senegal)
Photographer Riccardo Lopez takes us to the most beautiful corners of Cape Town, South Africa. Through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, walk among mountain gorillas with Kate Wickers. And learn about Katie Sammis’ tailoring journey in Dakar, Senegal.

Travel Through Design: Islands
Jeju (South Korea), Naoshima and Teshima (Japan), Faroe Islands (Denmark) & Little Island, NY (USA)
Design and creativity can be found in the most remote places, and in this issue we explore the creative side of the most distant islands. Cass Valdovinos takes us to the enchanting island of Jeju to meet the haenyeo, the women of the sea. Architecture and nature coexist in harmony on the Japanese islands of Naoshima and Teshima, as captured by photographer James Rosen. In the Faroe Islands, a community of creatives—ceramists, knitters, artists—is giving new visions to tradition, as Amy McPherson reports. And west of Manhattan, Little Island is a remarkable design masterpiece waiting to be enjoyed.
